Pay Day for Ray...

Ray Rice
Just in the nick of time (like 5 minutes) before the 4pm deadline the Ravens agreed on a multiyear deal with star running back Ray Rice. Yayyyyy!!!!!

The five year deal is worth $40 million. The best part of the deal is that Rice will receive $17 million in the first year of the contract...Wowsers! Congratulations to the Rice family, Ozzie Newsome (GM), Ravens' players and the coaching staff. No holdouts here!

Shout out to my boy Terrance for calling me out! I saw the news but I'm in the process of switching the blog from Blogger to my own hosting! Yayyy me! Ok, back to work!

FYI: The site will go down for a couple of hours tonight for the conversion, please bear with me. Thanks!

A Beary Happy Forte...

Matt Forte
Coming off the hem of my Tender Mercies post, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Bears' running back Matt Forte has agreed to terms on a four year contract worth $32 million. He should be one happy camper, now if only Ray Rice and the Ravens can agreed on a deal within the next hour (insert praying hands).

UPDATE: Kicker Josh Scobee agreed to a four year deal with the Jaguars

Tender Mercies...

Raven's Ray Rice
The deadline for NFL players to sign their franchise tenders is slowly looming. Franchises have until today at 4pm ET to sign players to extensions.

Franchise tags are placed on players who are going to become unrestricted free agents. By placing the tag on players, the team reserves their roster spot while signing them to a one-year deal (which is based on the average salary of the top-five players at their position). A franchise tag can only be granted to one player per team each year.

The franchise tags were created for teams to get a chance to keep their most important players. Most players are looking for that long term deal (security!) therefore they refuse to sign them, which is where we are with some of the players below.

Hi Haters...

Source: Lebron's Instagram

I love this!

You Got It...

Seems like the Knicks have come to their senses and decided to let the Rockets have point guard Jeremy Lin....well that's the word on the street (street aka sports rumor mill).

Lin, who was released by the Rockets early last year before heading to New York, made a major splash in the Big Apple....And in splash I meant, more in the media and pop culture than on the court. Now the Rockets want him back.

The 23 year old point guard came up big for the Knicks for about a good month when they were without stars, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire. In his 25 starts Lin averaged 18.2 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.7 turnovers. But everything came to an end when Lin was sidelined due to a meniscus tear in his left knee.

The Haute Post of the Day...

Canadian songstress, Melanie Fiona, rocked this Equipment Signature Leopard Print Silk Chiffon Shirt to the Ojon "Rare Blend Oil" Launch Event recently.

I love the way Fiona paired the blouse with high waisted red shorts, a vintage brown clutch and a hot red lip.

On another note...Didn't she kill her performance on the BET Awards! #random

Have You Seen Him???

These post will be dedicated to athletes that make you think, "What ever happened to..."

Vernon Maxwell aka "Mad Max" was one of the bad boys of the NBA in the early 90s. He helped the Rockets capture back-to-back championships with his tenacious defense and clutch shooting. Man, the memories! My cousin had a major crush on him when I was younger, and I really thought that he was her boyfriend...but that's neither here nor there, lol!

The most recent accounts of Maxwell's whereabouts were a brush with the law in 2009. I hope he's somewhere in Florida coaching or giving back in some way.

My Shoes of the Day...

Just in time for the summer, these Gucci bamboo horsebit drivers are too cool for school (did I really just type that!). If you're going to rock a white shoe I say let's roll with these and put those Air Force Ones to bed while getting your grown man on. (Retail Price: $495)

Ladies, I can't forget you! If you know me, you know that I love leopard...Hello! This Brian Atwood Brigitte calf hair and suede platform sandals are EVERYTHING! They are so on trend, and perfect for the summer. The pops of color bring life into the shoe and of course the leopard is oh so lovely. Just imagine yourself in an all white outfit, while rocking these...HOT! (Retail Price: $1085)

Irving Breaks Hand....

NBA 2012 Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving broke his right hand during the Cavaliers practice Saturday in Vegas. So let me see if I'm getting all of this right, one day you're challenging the Black Mamba, and the next, you break your hand? Hmmmm....did Kobe send the goons out to keep the young buck in his place? (I kid, I kid)

The 20 year old guard is calling the incident a "freak accident". He will head to Cleveland for examinations by team doctors and will likely undergo surgery. The team will not have a timeline on Irving's return until he is examined.

"I am a little disappointed, I have to be more responsible about my health. It was just crazy. It happened so fast."

90s Fashion....

Am I the only one that watch A Different World, Martin, Living Single daily...and want to snatch the clothes off Whitley, Gina, Pam, and Regine's backs? The 90s were a time when fashion had no limits.

From the neon looks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to the leather and rope chains sported by Run DMC. Who remembers Cross Colour, 8ball leather jackets, Karl Kani, Girbaud, Fubu, Lugz, Contempo Casual, and Wu Wear!

History has a strange way of repeating itself and fashion from the 1990s has made a huge return. Let's take a trip down memory lane while giving you some fashion tips on how you could be nostalgic but still on trend. Check them out after the jump.

Free Agent Frenzy...

Things are getting really interesting in NBA Free agency, from the Dwight Howard limbo to the missing Jeremy Lin offer sheet.

From Top to Bottom: Gordon, Batum, Felton, Lin, Bynum
-The Dwight Howard relocation plans are still bombarding my life!!!! UGH! I am so over him. There are now talks between the Lakers, Magic and Cavaliers, that will send Bynum to Cleveland, Howard to LA with a package of prospects and picks to Orlando. This sounds like a good situation for both of the big men to me, but like all the Howard hoopla this one is slowly dying down. Is there any way to do a trade between the LA Sparks and the Orlando Magic, I'm sure the Magic would be happier with Candace Parker...I can already see Shelden Williams cheering on the sidelines, lol!

-The Knicks threw a wrench in the Jeremy Lin deal, they agreed to a sign and trade with the Blazers for their former guard, Raymond Felton (three year/$10 million). So if you're keeping up, that's Kidd, Felton, and a possible Lin as the teams PG core. Honestly, based on what happened last year with the injuries to both Lin and Davis, they need to keep all of them. The Rockets offer sheet for Lin is still on the table, and Knicks have until Tuesday at 11:59 ET to match. The offer sheet has finally made it to the Knicks after a few failed attempts to deliver it to GM Glen Grunwald. Was Grunwald ducking and dodging the papers? The Felton signing caught everyone off guard, including Lin and there are rumors that the Knicks will let him go. The Rockets' offer sheet for Lin is worth a little over $25 million.

-The talks between the Timberwolves and Trailblazers for 23 year old swingman Nicolas Batum continue. Batum has made it pretty clear that he wants to head to Minnesota, who in their right mind would want to go to Minnesota...Prince? But hey, you can't win when your choices are Minnesota or Oregon (shrug).  Basketball wise Minnesota is a better choice, in terms of future success. The Timberwolves are expected to make an offer today.

-The New Orleans Hornets have matched the offer sheet from the Phoenix Suns to keep guard Eric Gordon (four years/$58 million). This one was expected.

Just a quick update to make sure you're keeping up with some of the recent landings, check them out under the jump:

The Haute Post of the Day...

Basketball wife (a real one), Tamia wore this look a couple of weeks ago at the BET Awards Celebration. I love the color of her strapless cocktail dress, cobalt blue is really popular this year. The sweetheart neckline brings in a little sex appeal, but the singer keeps it classy with her gold accessories. The gold belt, strappy sandals and jeweled oversized clutch sealed the deal. The "Beautiful Surprise" singer looked awesome.

Lewis in London...

Raven's all-pro linebacker Ray Lewis took a trip overseas to surprise an amateur football team in London. I wish Lewis was one call away to motivate me to get up and go to the gym sometimes. He has a very promising future as a motivational speaker/preacher. I love his passion! Anything is better than those Old Spice commercials, I'm just saying!

My Shoes of the Day....

These give me a Michael Jackson "Remember the Time" vibe, lol! I am loving these Giuseppe Zanotti embellished leather high top sneakers. The all black sneakers are hot, and gold accents add an extra pop. They are the male version of the women's "Shoe of the Day" from yesterday.
(Retail Price: $750)

These wedges are to die for! Pierre Hardy is responsible for this hotness. Who wouldn't look hot in a black and white striped platform wedge? I would rock these with a white v-neck tee, red skinny jeans and a black boyfriend blazer...can we say...HAUTE!
(Price upon request)

UPDATED: Stay or Go...

There is a heated debate brewing on the campus of Penn State, should the statue of former head coach Joe Paterno that stands outside of Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa. be removed?

After the release of the Freeh report findings that revealed that both Paterno and Penn State trustees were aware of Jerry Sandusky's horrible acts to those young boys, and helped to cover them up.... People are calling for the statue to be removed.

Sexual abuse is not okay, and you are just as guilty if you know, and conceal the information. This is terrible for Penn State University, the young boys affected and their families.

Nike has already made a bold statement, they removed Paterno's name from their child development center on the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore.

I've always admired Paterno as a coach, I put him up there with Coach K and Pat Summit, but this has tarnished, both his legacy and the university's name. As far as the statue, I think it should be removed.

The statue was placed to honor Paterno for his 60 years of service, but now its just a constant reminder of a man that let the university down, by covering for his sick defensive coodinator. Paterno will always be remembered as a great coach, who cared for his players, I wish he would have cared just as much for Sandusky's victims.

UPDATE (10:21 ET): The Penn State trustees have decided to let the Joe Paterno statue stay...SMH!

Olympic Fashion...

The 2012 Summer Olympics is approaching at a rapid pace. The games begin, Friday, July 27th and end, Sunday, August 12th in London, England. During this time I get extremely patriotic so I decided to do a post on Olympic fashions.

The poor Olympians are forced to wear these funny uniforms by Ralph Lauren during the opening ceremonies (imagine James Harden in this outfit with that beard, SMH!). It is nothing cool about that hat or that long schoolgirl skirt. No thank you! There is also outrage about the uniforms being made in China instead of the USA...Tsk! Tsk!

Below are some options if you want to get in on the Olympic celebration, in a stylish way:

Nasty Gal

These Stars and Bars skinny jeans by Tripp NYC are for that chick that want to step outside the box. Since the pants have a pop its best to tone them down with a white tee and black patent pumps, with minimal accessories. (Retail Price: $128)

Urban Outfitters

These patriotic shorts will let the world know that you are proud to be an American. Throw these on for a trip to the beach, or just hanging out with the guys. (Retail Price: $39)

Olympic Outlook...

2012 Team USA:

Kobe and the boys are gearing up for the London Olympics but they had to handle a few things before heading out. First they had a match up against the Dominican Republic on Thursday night in Vegas. It was more like a spanking than an exhibition game, as Team USA toppled the John Calipari coached Dominican squad, 113-59. Since this game lacked pizzazz I wasn't able to tell how good the US squad was, or better yet, how good they can actually play together. I will get another chance to assess their talents, they will be in action again Monday, July 16th in the Nation's Capital to take on Brazil. Check it out on ESPN2, at 6pm ET.

2012 Team USA Basketball

The star of the game was Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who lead the team with 24 pts and 10 rebs. The play of the game had to be 2012 #1 draft pick (Hornets) Anthony Davis' foul on a made three in the 4th quarter. After making the shot, Davis looked over at the Dominican bench towards his college coach Calipari, as to say, "you should have let me shoot more of these at Kentucky".

Davis was called up to replace Clipper's forward Blake Griffin who suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee during the team's Wednesday scrimmage. Griffin, will have surgery and is set to be out for eight weeks, so no Olympics for him (tear). He should be ready for the NBA season.

The Haute Post of the Day...

The "Haute Post" will spotlight an aspect of fashion daily, like bags, clothes, shoes, trends, outfits, etc. Each post will make you want to add it to your "Need it in my life" list...
or is that just me.

Today's post is the neon Birkin (fuchsia, citron, and hot pink) and Kelly (orange) bags from the Hermes summer 2012 collection. I've always wanted a Hermes Birkin bag, and I am currently swooning over their latest color choices. You've probably seen Victoria Beckham, the Kardashians, Kimora Lee Simmons and Nene Leakes rocking Hermes and you could too if you have a few dollars....uhhh, more like $9,000-$100,000 hanging around. I am loving the hot pink and citron the most. I already have a couple of outfits in my head, can a girl dream a little.

Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself...

Newly acquired Brooklyn Nets' Joe Johnson, and the team's re-signed guard Deron Williams was introduced to the media today. Johnson was acquired in a trade that sent Jordan Framer, Anthony Morrow, Deshawn Steveson, Johan Petro, Jordan Williams, and a 2013 first round draft pick to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the all-star guard.

Williams, Johnson with family, and head coach Avery Johnson
Since signing the guard to the max deal in 2010 (six year/$120 million) the star hasn't quite lived up to the hype. The Nets are taking a chance with the 31 year old Johnson by pairing him up with all-star point guard Williams to create "the best backcourt in the NBA" proclaims Nets GM Billy King.

Williams was recently signed to a five year $98 million dollar contract extension after testing free agency for a millisecond. Williams had the option to opt-out, and he contemplated playing in his hometown (Dallas), but ultimately he chose to stay in Brooklyn. Its good to see him stay in Brooklyn and break in that new Barclay Center.

The team has been pretty busy this season, they added swingman Gerald Wallace to the squad and just signed their mediocre big man Brook Lopez to a max deal (four year/$61 million). Maybe I would take this deal a little more serious if they were throwing in Brook's twin brother Robin, a Kerri Strug signed leotard, and the Stanford mascot (that tree is so cute in that ESPN commercial, but I digress, lol!). Man, its something about the NBA and those twins from Stanford, ie Lopezs and Collins. I could have swore I saw one of those Collins boys (Jason) running down a court this year. The NBA is handing out free money....But the real question in all of this is, what are they going to do with The Hump aka Kris Humphries? If Kanye has any say he won't be chillin with Jigga anytime soon.

And I’ll admit, I fell in love with Kim
‘Round the same time she had fell in love wit’ him
Well, that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thing
Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop ‘im from the team
La familia, Roc Nation
We in the buildin’, but still keep it basement

Vick's New Clothing Line...V7

Nothing brings me more joy than the merging of sports and fashion. Eagles star OB Michael Vick is the latest to introduce a new venture off the field. Vick is launching a new clothing line, V7 that is set to be sold at Modell's (click for store locations).

Vick sporting one of this V7 t-shirts.."It's Not How You Start It's How You Finish"
V7 will include technical athletic apparel such as T-shirts, shorts, and tank tops. Prices are $12.99 for children's clothes and $19.99 for adult clothes.

Modell's confirmed that the line was developed in a licensing partnership with celebrity clothing line mogul, Ruby Azrak, and former talent agent Brian Sher.Vick will donate a portion of the line's proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia.

Vick may want to get the "Comeback Kid" on the t-shirt printing press asap because he is on a roll. His story of redemption is so inspiring and you'll be able to check it out soon, his autobiography "Finally Free" will be released later this year.

UPDATED: Dwight to Houston?...

This post is close to my heart since I've been a Houston Rockets fan since FOREVER, during the good, the bad and ugly (Sam Cassell, j/k)! The Dwight circus has made another stop in Houston and it seems that Rockets general manager, Daryl Morey is about to send the whole team including, the water boys, his first born, 'the 95 championship trophy, Yao Ming's ankles and Turbo to the Orlando Magic for the league's "Loyalty" poster boy.

The proposed deal according to ESPN.com

"The Rockets, if they go ahead with their widely reported plans to release starting power forward Luis Scola via the NBA's amnesty clause, are prepared to absorb the contracts of Jason Richardson, Glen Davis and Chris Duhon -- in addition to sending Orlando multiple future first-round picks and recent draftees -- to give the Magic an opportunity to wipe their payroll virtually clean for their post-Howard rebuilding effort.
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is feverishly trying to construct a trade that will allow the Rockets to take back, in addition to Howard, some combination of Richardson, Davis, Duhon and Hedo Turkoglu. With Scola's three remaining seasons valued at roughly $21 million off the books, the Rockets believe they can create the requisite cap space to do so.
Friday thus looms as a pivotal day in the Rockets' all-out quest to trade for Howard. Not only is Houston expected to formally waive Scola on Friday, but sources say the Rockets will also finalize their long-awaited offer sheet to New York Knicks restricted free agent Jeremy Lin. The Knicks have been adamant that they will match Houston's four-year offer to Lin valued at just under $29 million, but they can take three days to do so once Lin signs."

My Shoes of the Day....

One phrase for these show showstoppers..."Solid Gold"! Christian Louboutin is responsible for these Louis Strass Flat sneakers. You will be dressed to impress and the star of the show in these. Dress them up or down, either way your star power won't be denied in these.
(Retail price: $2995)

These multicolor wedges by Giuseppe Zanotti are currently on my "Need in my life" list. They are so hot and current with the bold colors and colorblocking trends that have been hitting the runways. I am in love! Sneaker wedges are all the rage right now and I am dying to get a pair and so should you. You can't go wrong with cute and comfy! (Retail Price: $650)

Big Money Brees!

After a long offseason of back and forth negotiations, the New Orleans Saints and their star quarterback Drew Brees have finalized a new deal. Let's just say Brees will be Cashin Out (cue the Sean Payton video please, LOL!).

The deal is a five year, $100 million contract, that will guarantee a record $60 million (including a $40 million pay day in 2012).  Many felt the deal would eventually happen between Brees and the Saints' brass before the Monday deadline, and indeed it did.

Brees means so much to both the franchise and the city of New Orleans, so it was only a matter of time. He revived the city when he lead the Saints to a victory in the 2010 Super Bowl against the Indianapolis Colts. Congratulations to both Brees and the Who Dat Nation! This is a welcomed breath of fresh air after such a tumultuous offseason with the whole "Bounty Gate" situation.

Saints' head coach Sean Payton dancing to Cashin Out! LOL!
